" Run for Recovery " is a political bootcamp for people in recovery.
The program graduated its inaugural class in 2024 .
Participants met online to learn about the ins and outs of mounting a campaign.
Thomas Higdon , 52 , said he felt he had ruined his chances of running for office because of his substance use.
Not only are people in recovery voting and showing up and advocating, we're running for office, and we're going to serve in these seats," Gary-Allen said. "We're going to help create solutions to substance use across the country. I'm excited for the next couple of election seasons.".
