•New U of C study on domestic violence prevention seeks to understand early warning signs

University of Calgary study shows 73 per cent of men charged with domestic violence in 2019 had previous run-ins with police.
Study was designed to understand early predictors exhibited by male perpetrators of domestic violence to allow for better prevention.
The first -of-its-kind study is the result of collaborations between several community partners.
From January to September 2024 , Calgary police responded to more than 14,000 domestic conflict reporting calls.
Less than 30 per cent of intimate partner violence cases actually are reported to the police.
74 per cent report personally knowing at least one woman who has been sexually or physically abused.
