Councillors voted 9 -5 against offering any direction on the potential closure of the controversial Beltline facility.
Alberta Mental Health and Addiction Minister Dan Williams had said the UCP government required the mayor’s approval before it would consider closing the Safeworks site on 4th Street S.W. Ward 13 Coun. Dan McLean submitted a motion seeking council's support to ultimately shutter the site.
McLean said the facility has negatively affected the surrounding community.
