new CPS shooting rangecalgaryherald
•74% Informative
Calgary city council voted 8-6 in support of a police commission request to use unallocated funds from a joint funding framework to build a new indoor firearms range.
The current CPS shooting range is past its lifecycle, having been in operation for nearly a quarter-century .
The facility presents occupational health and safety concerns, including a dated HVAC system and noise abatement deficiencies that limit officers from accessing the range for four hours per day.
Councillors who voted in opposition to the motion included Chabot , McLean , Chu and Sharp.
Commission chair says CPS has no choice but to use CSIF funding to build the range.
The commission is looking forward to working with council more next month to find a solution.
