The Moon experiences its own tides, as the Earth also does its own tugging.

Scientists from NASA and the University of Arizona have analyzed eight years of data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and NASA ’s Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory ( GRAIL ) mission.

They found that it was impossible to reproduce the observed results without the inclusion of a low-viscosity, or “gooey,” layer in the lower mantle.
