•What to know about breast arterial calcification screening
83% Informative
A practice in Washington , D.C. , Maryland , and Virginia offers mammogram analysis for heart disease risk.
Calcifications in the arteries of the breasts may be associated with cardiovascular disease.
But some imaging experts question the idea of screening for breast arterial calcification.
Even women who don’t have the calcification might still be at risk of heart disease, heart attack or stroke.
Every woman who visits the Lynn Women’s Health and Wellness Institute in Boca Raton , Florida , for a mammogram is screened for breast arterial calcification.
If calcification is found, the woman is referred to a cardiologist or other health care practitioner at the center to discuss the findings.
