Ireland ’s media and internet watchdog, Coimisiún na Meán , has adopted and published an Online Safety Code.
The Code will apply to video-sharing platforms headquartered in the country from next month .
Platforms must have terms and conditions that ban uploads or sharing of a range of harmful content types.
The aim of the Code is to address content types that are not directly in scope of the EU 's Digital Services Act .
Ireland ’s Online Safety Commissioner, Niamh Hodnett , said: “The adoption of the Online Safety Code brings an end to the era of social media self-regulation’ The Code sets binding rules for video-sharing platforms to follow in order to reduce the harm they can cause to users.
