UCL researchers set a new wireless transmission record, achieving speeds of 938 Gb /s over a frequency range of 5-150 GHz , which is up to 9,380 times faster than average UK 5G speeds.
Breakthrough , combining radio and optical technologies, promises faster and more reliable wireless communication within the next few years .
The technology has only currently been demonstrated in the laboratory.
Work is underway to produce a prototype system that can be used for commercial testing.
If successful, the technology will be ready to be incorporated into commercial equipment within three to five years .
