Parts of Arizona , Nevada and New Mexico have been hit by an October heat wave, with unseasonably warm temperatures 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit above average stretching into mid-October .
The city on Tuesday snapped a streak of 21 straight days of record-breaking daily high temperatures.
The heat is finally expected to break heading into the weekend , as a cold front brings cooler conditions.
The researchers also found that disadvantaged and underserved communities bear a disproportionate burden of that urban heat.
More months of summer -like conditions mean longer wildfire seasons, expert says.
Warm temperatures earlier in the spring and later in the fall also disrupt the natural flow of Earth ’s water cycle.
