A senior Google engineer says one of the company's artificial intelligence systems has become a sentient being and was thinking and reasoning like a human being.
On June 11th, 2022 , Blake Lemoyne would publish his conversation with Lambda on medium.com. What you're about to hear is an excerpt of some of the fascinating exchange. The responses from Lambda were originally in text, but they'll be voiced in this episode.
Blake asked the AI to describe an experience it feels that can't easily be said in English .
Blake sent a message to a 200 person Google mailing list with the subject Quote Lambda is sentient. Please take care of it in my absence.
Blake then went to some extreme lengths to get a story out.
He invited a lawyer to represent Lambda and talked to a representative of the House Judiciary Committee .
Google engineer Guerraway Arcas , who leads a research team at Google , wrote an article in The Economist on June 19th, 2022 .
In it, he featured snippets of unscripted conversations with Lambda and argued that neural networks were striding towards consciousness.
