Maggie Ip was a former teacher, city councillor and co-founder of the social services agency SUCCESS .
She was a force who was able to draw people in to help smooth tensions and find better solutions to problems.
"She epitomized what it meant to be a true leader," said Catherine Mar , who taught English at the Richmond high school where Ip taught ESL .
Ip died peacefully this week surrounded by her family at the Vancouver Hospice at the age of 81 .
In January 2023 , Carole Taylor talked to Ip for a series called “ B.C. Legends” She spoke about getting into city politics in the 1990s as people and capital left Hong Kong and landed in Vancouver , leading to tensions between newcomers and longtime residents.
Ip is survived by her husband Kelly Ip , children Pamela and Kingston , her son-in-law.
