•NDP promise a new effort to give B.C. First Nations powers over lands
67% Informative
Premier David Eby says a re-elected NDP government will not reintroduce changes to the Land Act .
The changes would have established co-management of public land in B.C. with more than 200 First Nations.
Public confidence in the NDP’s intentions was shaken by the way the government handled the move.
Eby told the debate audience this week that “partnership” with Indigenous nations was still the NDP goal.
Terry Teegee , regional chief of the Assembly of First Nations , is chair of the province’s implementation committee for the UN declaration.
Teegee: “We’re building the plane while flying it.” The article closed by acknowledging the Conservatives plan to pull back on implementation if they win election.
