•Starmer's new chief McSweeney to 'disrupt and break things' until Labour delivers
70% Informative
Morgan McSweeney appointed as new chief of staff after ousting Sue Gray .
He was at the centre of a toxic power struggle at the heart of No 10 just weeks into the new Labour administration.
Now he has his sights on a major overhaul of the Downing Street operation.
But concerns remain about his lack of experience in Whitehall and of running a government department.
Morgan McSweeney was born and raised in the historic rebel town of Macroom in west Cork .
He was inspired to join the movement by the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 .
He will be overseeing a No 10 chastened by the weeks of negative briefings that ultimately brought down Sue Gray .
McSweeney first earned his stripes as a Labour fixer in Lambeth Council in south London .
He helped set up the moderate think-tank Labour Together that has helped shape much of the Labour Party’s thinking under Mr Starmer .
He will now face the challenge of uniting the Labour family after a rocky start.
