•Caffeine might have a protective role against Alzheimer's disease
79% Informative
A study of individuals with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease in France found that participants who consumed less caffeine had 2.49 times higher odds of having amnestic mild cognitiveimpairmentand worse levels of specific cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers associated with Alzheimer's.
The study was part of the ongoing BALTAZAR cohort and was published in the journal Alzheimer's & Dementia .
The study sheds light on the association between caffeine consumption and the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
The design of this study does not allow for any cause-and-effect conclusions to be drawn from the data.
While it is possible that caffeine might have protective effects against the symptoms, it is also possible that individuals in better cognitive health consume more caffeinated beverages.
