Oklahoma 's request for Bibles for public schools was significantly changed Monday after questions arose surrounding its legality.
The request for the delivery date and a provision that now allows the vendor to provide Bibles and other documents such as copies of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights separately appears to expand the number of possible vendors.
State Superintendent Ryan Walters has said he supports the state spending up to $6 million to supply Bibles to every Oklahoma classroom.
Neither Stitt nor Nellie Sanders , his secretary of education, have spoken publicly about the plan to purchase the Bibles .
Numerous emails to Stitt ’s spokespeople have gone unanswered, and messages to Sanders have not been returned.
An executive order requires all executive branch agencies to have the Cabinet secretary's approval of non-emergency purchases that cost more than $25,000 .
