Zishan Alvi , 45 , of Inverness , Illinois , co-owned LabElite , which billed the federal government for COVID-19 tests that were either never performed or were performed with purposefully inadequate components to render them futile.
Alvi pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, taking responsibility for $14 million worth of fraudulent claims.
He now faces up to 20 years in prison and will be sentenced on February 7, 2025 .
