Her father, Dennis Bowman , was arrested on suspicion of murder in November 2019 .
The case went cold for almost 40 years until DNA testing led to a possible break in the case.
Investigators used a Y-chromosome DNA profile from a bedspread found on Kathleen Doyle's bedspread.
Dennis Bowman pleaded guilty to first -degree murder, rape and burglary in the case of Kathleen Doyle's murder.
He was sentenced to two terms of life in prison, plus 20 years for the burglary.
Investigators lifted DNA from a cup he used at the station in Michigan was a match for the DNA collected from Kathleen 's bedspread.
Investigators did start digging up the Bowmans ' yard but they didn't find anything.
Investigators said during Into the Fire that they followed up and searched near graveyards for a potential burial site.
A subsequent dig of the Bowmans ' yard recovered skeletal remains in February 2020 .
