Mitt Romney Braces for Trump’s Retribution

Sen. Mitt Romney is stepping down when his term ends in January .

His planned departure was part of an unusually large wave of retirements from Congress in 2024 .

Romney had mentioned to me repeatedly, in those brief exchanges over the preceding months , that life in Congress was getting worse.

He seemed lighter in a way, but also more restless.
