Kenji “Flash” Bowen was driving home with his girlfriend and their baby near Wilmington , North Carolina , in the midst of a near-tropical storm that flooded parts of the state.

After being turned back by floodwaters on a secondary road, he saw a pickup truck inching along towards the torrent on the opposite side of the road.

The pickup truck slid into deep floodwaters and began to sink.

Bowen lept into the water and moved as fast as he could towards the truck.

He then went back to rescue the man and his dog as the car was sinking.
