Environmental activists stop coal train near Newcastle to protest federal approval of NSW mine extensions.
Police were called to Sandgate about 10am on Wednesday , where a group of protesters had climbed the coal wagon.
The group is protesting over federal approval for three NSW coal mines to extend their operation for another three-to-four decades.
The company behind one of the expansions says it will support hundreds of regional jobs.
