Twenty civil rights organizations signed a letter Thursday calling for Fortune 1000 company CEOs and board members to defend diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
The letter comes after companies including Ford , Tractor Supply and Harley Davidson curbed their DEI efforts.
"Abandoning DEI will have long-term consequences on business success," the authors of the letter wrote.
60% percent of people say an inclusive work culture with a diversity program is critical to attracting and retaining them as an employee.
Only 16 percent of employees think focusing on DEI "is a bad thing," according to Pew .
Divestment from DEI will alienate diverse consumer segments including women, people of color, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community.
