Frida Ghitis : The notion that Americans should dial down their incendiary rhetoric is undeniable, but that message cannot be delivered credibly by the person who sent a mob to the US Capitol and cheered the thugs who assaulted cops for three hours .
The plea to ease up on hate speech cannot be made by the guy who invented a patois of political violence, Ghitis says.
She says the criticism about Trump being a threat to democracy is common because it’s true: America saw irrefutable evidence of that threat in the riots on Jan. 6 , in his schemes to overturn the election he had he lost, and in his fondness of violence itself.
There is no certainty that the country will survive this dangerous campaign, but this isn't our first terrible rodeo.
