•'I told him I’m not getting in it,' ex-OceanGate engineer tells U.S. Coast Guard
71% Informative
Former OceanGate submersible engineer Tony Nissen testifies in hearings into 2023 implosion of the Titan sub.
He says CEO Stockton Rush allegedly asked him to act as a pilot in upcoming expedition to the Titanic .
The Coast Guard also confirmed reports that the sub had been stored in an outdoor parking lot in temperatures as low as 1.4 F (-17 C) in the run-up to last year's Titanic missions.
Catterson is one of only two witnesses the Coast Guard has called who was among the 42 people aboard the Polar Prince.
He was operating the floating platform used to transport, launch, and recover the Titan submersible.
Catterson admitted to contributing to an “uncomfortable” incident on a previous Titan dive, where an incorrectly closed valve caused the sub to tilt, tumbling its passengers together for an hour .
