The European Court of Justice (ECJ) found that the decree adopted by Budapest in 2022 , requiring retailers to sell certain food products at a fixed price, breaches the bloc’s Common Organisation of the Markets ( CMO ) regulation.
The court added that the regulated prices caused disruptions in the food chain and undermined the free access of operators to the market guaranteed by the CMO Regulation .
The decree was in force for one year and covered sugar, wheat flour, sunflower oil, pork, poultry, milk, eggs and potatoes.
