PiS chairman Jarosław KaczyńskiNotes From Poland

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has withdrawn his counter-signature from a judicial appointment he said he made “by mistake” Two weeks ago , the prime minister provided a counter signature to approve a decision by President Andrzej Duda to appoint a judge as chair of an assembly that would choose a new head of the Supreme Court’s civil chamber.
That came as a surprise because the judge in question is one of what Tusk 's government and its supporters call “neo-judges” The current government regard such judges as illegitimate because the body responsible for nominating them was overhauled in a manner that various European and Polish court rulings have found rendered it no.
The electoral assembly will meet tomorrow to begin the process of choosing a new head of the civil chamber.
Justice minister Adam Bodnar said earlier today that “it is possible to make a self-correction of a decision made earlier” Bodnar has been tasked with leading efforts to undo the overhaul of the judiciary implemented by PiS , which is widely seen to have politicised some institutions.
