Manshika Prasad, 24 , was crowned Miss Fiji on Friday night .

The MBA student was told she would not be travelling to Mexico to compete for the Miss Universe title.

Instead, runner-up Nadine Roberts , a 30-year-old model and property developer from Sydney , would take her place.

A press release alleged the "correct procedures" had not been followed, and a rigged vote favoured a " Fiji Indian " contestant.

Miss Universe is a multi-million-dollar business which operates like a franchise.

Lux Projects bought a licence which enables you to use the brand and sell tickets for the event.

Fiji hasn’t entered a contestant since 1981 .

But this year , Lux Projects was willing to buy the licence - and was unhappy with the outcome of the vote.

It said the licensee should also get a vote - one which the contracted organiser had “failed to count”.

Miss Universe Organization has not responded to a request for comment, but the BBC understands it is extremely unhappy with the events in Fiji .
