Grayson McCall was almost entirely ignored as a recruit, then his 2020 season catapulted him to stardom.
McCall redshirted the 2019 season , but by the summer of 2020 , he'd blossomed -- and so had the mullet.
After a nearly career-ending injury in 2023 , he figured he needed a new challenge with a new team he could help propel to new heights.
"Everything I've heard since," McCall said, "is 'Where's the Mullet ?'".
Grayson McCall suffered a traumatic brain injury in a game against Arkansas State in 2023 .
McCall had no recollection of the play, but he had no memory of it.
He sat out the rest of the season, though he attended every Coastal practice and game.
"It seemed like I was taking a call from every school in the country," he says.
McCall was once an overlooked recruit, then a fan favorite at NC State .
NC State has won nine games in four of the past seven years , but hasn't won a conference championship since 1979 .
