Scientists from the University of Leeds have used AI modelling to reveal the 10 countries responsible for the most plastic pollution around the world.
India topped the table as the biggest producer of plastic pollution - creating 9.3 million tonnes of waste in a single year .
Nigeria and Indonesia were the second and third biggest polluters, with 3.5 million tonnes and 3.4 million tonnes respectively.
Each year , the researchers predict that more than 400 million tonnes are produced - with 52 million tonnes burning or dumped out in the open.
