30 uncommitted delegates representing some 700,000 protest voters oppose the Biden administration’s policies on Israel .
The group had real, scrappy energy, and for a few days , they seemed to gather momentum.
But by the last day , it was clear that movement leaders felt snubbed by national Democratic leadership.
James Zogby was the last person to speak about Palestinian human rights from the podium of a major U.S. political convention in 1988 .
He says party leaders were beholden to certain donors over the will of voters.
Recent polls shows more than 4 in 5 Democrats favor a permanent cease-fire in Gaza , and more broadly suggest a sea change.
As the uncommitted movement looks ahead, their focus is on mobilizing the coalition they’ve built to continue pushing for change within the party.
“In Michigan , especially, people are disassociating from the party,” said Rima Mohammad , an uncommitted delegate from Michigan .
