The Menga Dolmen is a 5,600-year-old megalithic monument in southern Spain .
Each of the 32 colossal stones that make up the monument weighs about 1,140 metric tons .

A decade -long research project published in the journal Science Advances reveals the engineering skills needed to accomplish such a feat.
New study describes the Menga Dolmen as a one -of-a-kind example of creative genius’ and early science’ in a Neolithic society.
Researchers have identified the source of the stones used to build the monument: a quarry 850 meters ( 0.5 mile ) away.
They would likely have designed a trackway or road to minimize friction of the relatively soft rock against the ground.
