Photographer didn't believe in destiny, until he captured iconic Messi-Yamal image

Joan Monfort took a photograph of Lamine Yamal , a six-month-old baby in a plastic tub, in 2008 .

The image, taken by Monfort in December 2007 and not seen since, reappeared out of nowhere 16 years later .

Lamine 's father posted it on Instagram , alongside the text: "The beginning of two legends" Monfort: "There are nights when I wake up sweating and thinking: 'Bloody hell, what if it's not Lamine ?'.

Barcelona calendar was created to highlight social problems faced by kids and their families.

Each player was given a month in the back cover of the calendar.

Monfort says Messi was shy and introverted when he was pictured with a baby.

He says he still has the photo of Messi with a rubber duck he used to take with his daughter.

Barcelona-Unicef 2008 calendar featuring Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal was published in 2008 .

The picture was one of 13 , the first of 13 in the 2008 calendar, the page soon turned and forgotten.

Monfort had not laid eyes on it for 16 years , barely gave it a second thought.
