•How B-boy Victor Made Paris 2024 Olympics History By Channeling the “Essence of Breaking”
65% Informative
Victor Montalvo took home a bronze medal in breaking at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics .
The breakdancing event premiered at this year 's quadrennial gathering of the world’s top athletes.
He says it was important that he got to share breaking with a new audience as a part of Team USA .
For me, as a breaker, it’s really tough because everyone knows what I’m going to do, and everyone knows my moves.
I had to reinvent myself and do it all over again, and I was so proud of myself. I had a lot of relief once I made it into the top eight , because my bracket was actually one of the hardest.
In the semis , I lost against Dany Dann , which was pretty difficult because he had the hometown advantage.
After you lost that round, how did you find the energy to come back and keep competing? I was bummed out about it, though. I didn’t have as much energy as I did for the semifinals.
I was just in shock because I’m so used to winning, and it was a humbling experience.
