Researchers at the University of Bath in the U.K. have developed a new technique that could enable the extreme miniaturization of computing components.

The technique is enabled by a new type of magnetic tunnel junction ( MTJ ) A key enabling component for spintronics is the MTJtwo ferromagnetic layers separated by an insulating barrier.

By precisely controlling the current, the new technique can change the spin states in 2D magnets using the current's polarity and amplitude.
