For months his US presidential election campaign had been praised as tighter, smoother and more professional this time around.

But Democrats upended the race by replacing Joe Biden with Kamala Harris as their nominee.

For the past three weeks the former president has been lashing out, pushing lies, hurling insults, trialling nicknames, trafficking in racism and trotting out nonsense.

Trump falsely questioned Harris ’s mixed race heritage, saying: “She was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black person.” The Republican insisted that he continues to lead Harris but polls suggest otherwise as the Democratic nominee and her running mate, Tim Walz , ride a wave of voter energy.
