Gen X, millennials face higher risk of 17 cancers than older generations

Gen X and millennials are more likely to be diagnosed with 17 types of cancer, including nine that had been declining in older adults.

Researchers aren’t sure why, but say obesity is likely a leading cause.

The risk was two to three times higher in people born in 1990 for pancreatic, kidney and small intestine cancers.

Antibiotics are known to change the gut microbiome, which has been linked to colorectal cancer.

Researchers still don’t know what’s behind the rise in certain types of cancers among younger generations.

“The list of things we are potentially investigating is very long,” Cercek said.
