•Toyota’s new strategy to build an EV battery plant in Kyushu will help lower its costs in a number of ways
71% Informative
Toyota plans to build a new EV battery plant on Japan ’s Kyushu island , known as Silicon Island ’ for its concentration of tech and semiconductor facilities.
By placing the battery production facility close to its car assembly plant, Toyota will save on the expensive shipping costs and logistical challenges associated with transporting large, heavy batteries from distant locations.
The closer proximity means that the batteries can be delivered directly to the assembly line without the need for long-haul transport, which reduces both the time and money spent on moving these crucial components.
The plant will directly supply batteries to Lexus ’ nearby assembly facility, which means that all the upcoming high-end EVs, too, will benefit from.
Toyota has set a target for 70% of new vehicle sales in the US to be electrified by 2025 .
By 2030 , they aim to cut global average gas emissions from new vehicles by 33.3-percent .
This is part of a broader initiative to reduce emissions across the entire vehicle lifecycle.
They’ve also committed to carbon-neutral manufacturing by 2035 , which basically reduces CO2 emissions from its facilities by 68-percent , again compared with 2019 levels.
