How the prisoner swap with Russia came together

Three Americans in a permanent resident are on their way home tonight after the US secured their release from prison in Russia .

The deal includes Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich , U.S. Marine veteran Paul Whalen , Russian American journalist Alsu Komashiva and US resident Vladimir Karamersa .

The swap includes 24 people in several different countries involved.
