U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tightened rabies regulations for dogs coming into the country.
The new regulations went into effect August 1 .
The temporary suspension of importing dogs from high-risk rabies areas is lifted.
Dogs coming from more than 100 countries, including Afghanistan , China , India , Russia and Zimbabwe .
But there are still high rates of rabies in countries around the world, and the risk remains that it can be brought into the United States through infected dogs. “So, these recommendations were put in place because it’s the state of our world right now.”.
