The First Amendment Coalition has sent a letter to Shasta County supervisors protesting the county’s new media policy and procedures for covering board meetings.
The coalition says the new rules run counter to the Brown Act and "threaten the ability of journalists to exercise editorial independence" The letter asks the county to take corrective action before the Tuesday meeting, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m..
District 1 Supervisor Kevin Crye , who chairs the board, and District 4 Supervisor Patrick Jones did not immediately reply to emails seeking comment.
The letter concludes: “If the board considers these matters, it should take them up on a properly noticed agenda item at a future meeting”.
