Sen. Mary Boren was denied entry to an executive session during a State Board of Education meeting last month .
The board’s attorney, Cara Nicklas , cited attorney-client privilege, citing a section of the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act that allows for the presence of lawmakers in executive sessions, which are closed to members of the public.
Boren sent a letter to state schools Superintendent Ryan Walters saying she intends to observe the executive session.
Boren is welcome to attend any public meeting or executive session she is legally entitled to, a spokesman for the superintendent and board said.
Two Republican legislators, Sen. Adam Pugh of Edmond and Rep. Mark McBride of Moore, have attended executive sessions conducted by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education during that board’s two most recent meetings.
