statewide ballot issuescleveland
•80% Informative
Gov. Mike DeWine has signed more than 20 bills in the past two days dealing with a wide range of topics.
The bills were the product of a flurry of activity by state lawmakers late last month .
Most of the bills passed easily with bipartisan support, though a couple were passed by the Republican majority over mostly Democratic objections.
Under Senate Bill 98 , Ohio will no longer start re-numbering statewide ballot issues each election cycle.
House Bill 214 requires public schools to adopt policies prohibiting anyone from having to commit to a belief, political movement or ideology.
It also will allow students, with parental notification, to take up to three excused absences for religious expression days.
Supporters of HB214 say it will help combat liberalism in Ohio schools; some educators, however, opposed the bill.
