In May 2020 , Rio Tinto destroyed an ancient rockshelter at Juukan Gorge in Western Australia .
The site held thousands of significant objects including an ancient plait of human hair, tools and other artefacts, and animal remains.
The full results of the excavation were published for the first time earlier this month in Quaternary Science Reviews .
