The Senate plans to vote this week on a pair of children’s online safety bills.
The bills would require social media companies to provide better protections for users under age 17 .
KOSA has well over 60 co-sponsors, enough to overcome a filibuster from opponents.
A final vote could come next week unless senators in both parties agree to one sooner.
“Social media has helped hundreds of millions of people to connect in new ways over the last two decades , but there are also new and sometimes serious health risks that come along with those benefits,” Schumer said.
“We cannot set these risks aside, on this issue — we desperately need to catch up.”.
