elephant vocalizationsScienceDaily

Stanford University scientists have documented male elephants using "let's go" rumbles to signal the start of group departures from the Mushara waterhole in Etosha National Park, Namibia .
The rumbles are initiated by the most socially integrated, and often the most dominant, males in close-knit social groups.
This behavior was previously thought to be exclusive to female elephants in family groups.
"Our findings underscore the complexity and richness of the social lives of male elephants," Caitlin O'Connell-Rodwell said.
The findings advance our understanding of how they use vocalizations in ritual and coordination, she said.
"We really move us closer to the idea of elephant language," she added.
