India made history on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 , when its Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully landed on the moon’s south pole.
This is the first time any country has landed on this unexplored region, which is thought to be rich in water ice.
The lander successfully touched down in the Manzinus Mons region of the south pole at 1:45 PM IST ( 8:15 AM UTC) The next steps are to deploy the Pragyan rover and conduct a series of scientific experiments.
ISRO has plans to launch more missions to the moon in the coming years .
