Workers on Samsung 's 8-inch semiconductor production line say they suffer from degenerative osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, varicose veins, and other physical ailments due to the intensity of their labor.
The National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) is on a general strike by the Korean electronics giant.
Workers say they aren’t free to use menstrual leave or paid time off.
This is the first general strike in Samsung Electronics ’ 55-year history.
Samsung is denying it, numerous workers on the 8-inch line told the Hankyoreh that over half of the line’s workers have joined the strike.
“The company needs to acknowledge that the accumulated disappointment and anger of the workers is fueling the strike,” an NSEU insider said.
