The 2024 election’s ‘Portillo moments’: which ‘Big Beasts’ have lost their seats?

As of 7am on Friday , eight cabinet ministers had lost their seats in 2024 general election.

Penny Mordaunt , leader of the Commons Alex Chalk , Grant Shapps , Gillian Keegan , David TC Davies , Michelle Donelan , Lucy Frazer , Mark Harper and Johnny Mercer .

Liz Truss , Jacob Rees-Mogg , Liz Tuss , Alex Chalking and Grant Shapp also ousted.

Defence Secretary Grant Shapps loses his seat in Welwyn Hatfield in Hertfordshire .

He will be replaced by Labour ’s Andrew Lewin , who got 19,877 votes ( 41% ) Shapps got 16,078 votes ( 33% ) Lucy Frazer loses her seat in Ely and East Cambridgeshire in the early hours of Friday morning .

Justice secretary Alex Chalk and science secretary Michelle Donelan lose their seats.

Greg Hands best known for his heavy-handed jibes but lost out to Labour ’s Ben Coleman .
