Cannabidiol, one of the active ingredients in cannabis, is deemed to be safe for pregnant women.
One in five pregnant women in the US and Canada are using CBD-only products compared to 11.3% of non-pregnant women.
Study found CBD-exposed mice tended to move around their new environment more than females that didn't receive CBD during gestation.
The study's limitations are that the mice were given a controlled dose of CBD.
Human females may be more likely to use CBD intermittently throughout their pregnancy as needed to help with symptoms such as morning sickness.
They might also take considerably larger doses than those given to the mice.
Researchers say a strength was the study's naturalistic approach.
