T Coronae Borealis, also known as the "Blaze Star " or T CrB, is a binary star system located 3,000 light-years from Earth .
It is comprised of a white dwarf and a red giant orbiting each other in a binary system.
The system goes nova every 80 or so years due to a strange property of the white dwarf-red giant binary .
The explosion, once it occurs, will be visible for a week .
"Recurrent novae are unpredictable and contrarian," an astrophysics researcher at NASA Goddard said.
