Chicago will host the Democratic National Convention in August .
The city is facing a few complications: violence, the "wild card" of left-wing anti-Israel agitators, worn-down infrastructure, and the specter of the 1968 DNC protests.
The plan is to isolate the convention area from the rest of the city entirely, with access only for the media, law enforcement and DNC designees.
"We are going to basically never see a protester or rioters, period," a law enforcement source said.
There are concerns among the officers being asked to assist from out of town.
The 2020 riots that followed the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody are also fresh on many minds.
DNC organizers said the safety zones are standard procedure and that similar measures would be taken in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention .
